Second Wind Growth & Learning is a nonprofit organization with the mission of helping combat veterans and first responders overcome the negative effects of PTSD. By blending the proven neuroscience approach to trauma informed treatment with the power of faith, we provide comprehensive treatments that traditional psychotherapy typically does not offer. Proven Treatments for
Permanent Results

Second Wind helps combat veterans and first responders break free from the “stuck” patterns of PTSD by utilizing-evidenced-based treatments to actually “rewire” the brain.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less intense and disruptive. Using guided bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), patients can reduce the emotional “charge” of past experiences and build a stronger sense of safety and resilience.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

ART is a structured, goal-focused approach that helps relieve symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, and stress – often in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy. It uses guided eye movements and imagery techniques to help the brain “reframe” how upsetting memories are stored, without the need to share every detail.

Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT combines gentle acupressure tapping with focused attention on a thought, feeling, or memory to calm the nervous system. EFT is highly effective and is used to reduce stress and anxiety, shift unhelpful emotional patterns, and help patients feel more grounded in daily life.

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy involves guided interactions with horses to support emotional growth, confidence, and healthier relationship patterns. Led by a trained therapist and an equine professional, patients learn through real-time feedback from the horse to build skills like self-awareness, boundaries, and emotional regulation in a powerful, hands-on way.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

CPT is a highly effective, short-term (typically 12 sessions) structured treatment that helps patients identify and challenge dysfunctional, trauma-related thoughts. It focuses on modifying negative beliefs about safety, trust, control, and self-worth to reduce PTSD symptoms.

Psychoeducational & Conjoint Family Therapy

Family Therapy consists of psychoeducation and conjoint sessions to help educate families on how to handle their relationships with PTSD-affected veterans and first responders. These sessions are designed to help families understand how trauma impacts the brain, emotions, and relationships to shift confusion and conflict into clarity and teamwork. Together, we build practical communication and coping skills, strengthen connection, and create a shared plan for handling triggers, stress, and day-to-day challenges at home.

The Second Wind
Growth & Learning Difference

Built for Warriors
& Protectors

We are designed specifically for combat veterans and first responders, not the general population. Patients don’t have to explain their world, their humor, or why they “shut down.”

Neuroscience &
Evidence-Based Methods

While some therapists use talk therapies, Second Wind specializes in proven, brain-based techniques (EMDR, EFT, ART, CPT) that target the roots of PTSD in the nervous system.

Faster, Focused Progress
vs Endless Talk

Instead of years of revisiting the same stories, we focus on accelerated resolution and practical change, with many patients experiencing meaningful shifts in a shorter timeframe.
